Where to Walk or Hike this Weekend?

Ellenwood Park of course! This weekend features a Family Campfire hosted by the Friends of Ellenwood Park.

SUNDAY, OCT. 15th, 2-4 pm
Join the Friends of Ellenwood Park for a family friendly Campfire and Marshmallow Roast. Come and experience a classic Canadian outdoor tradition. Park at the entrance gate and take a leisurely 15 minute walk along the main road down to the lake. Look for the children’s playground and you will see  the ski cabin, the fire pit is just beyond.  Newcomers to the area are most welcome! Marshmallows (halal) and toasting sticks will be provided. Bring a story to share and be sure to bring the kids! **This event is weather dependent and will be cancelled if it’s too windy or wet.

Teen girls at a campfire

Ellenwood Park has an outdoor campfire area that you can use all year round!

Bring the whole family and have an “I-spy” style scavenger hunt on the way in. Ask your children to name ten things they see that are red (or whatever colour you choose). This gives everyone a chance to have success plus you can keep moving along without trying to figure out one specific object. You can play this game any time your family is out for a walk in the neighborhood, hiking in the woods or even walking around an office building or mall while waiting for appointments.

Take a Hike …with the kids!

There is no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you will find a better connection

Join us for a free guided family hike at Ellenwood Provincial Park on October 7th, 2017.

Family friendly hiking, games & activities, trail snacks and give-aways!

Ellenwood Park, October 7th, 1-3pm

Meet at the last parking lot near the public beach at 1pm (check in at the registration hut if you need directions). The trail is approximately 2 km and we will be hiking “family-friendly style”! (Lots of stopping with activities along the way).

Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. The trail is sometimes wet in spots so bring extra socks and shoes if you wish. Layered clothing is a good choice for our ever-changing weather.

Let us know you’re coming. 🙂

Grandparent’s Picnic

On August 15th Yarmouth Recreation invites you to our first Grandparent’s picnic at Beacon Park. Bring your grandchildren or young friends ages 2-6. Activities will begin at 11:00am and run until 1:00pm. Come out to the park and check out our life-sized games and bounce with us in our bouncy castle for the afternoon.  We will also be providing light snacks and refreshments.

Women’s Self Defense

Yarmouth Recreation is offering a Women’s Self Defense course taught by Mario Ross  Thursday evening, July 6th at Milo Boat Club from 6:30 till 8:00 pm. All ages welcome! This is a great opportunity to learn efficient and effective techniques to protect yourself if ever in a sticky situation or to just gain more confidence.
